FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto
Toronto will welcome the world’s biggest soccer tournament next summer, as the city gears up to host six matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The matches will take place between June 12 and July 2, marking the first men’s World Cup games ever held in Canada and featuring the Canadian Men’s National Team in the tournament opener, city officials said.
According to the City of Toronto, the schedule is as follows:
June 12, 2026 – Group Stage opener featuring Canada’s Men’s National Team
June 17, 20, 23 and 26, 2026 – Additional Group Stage matches
July 2, 2026 – Round of 32 match
“The beautiful game is coming to the beautiful city of Toronto,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “Our city’s diversity and passion for soccer will shine as we welcome fans from around the world.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino added, “Toronto embodies the spirit of ‘The World in a City.’ Its multicultural neighbourhoods and ardent supporters will make these matches unforgettable.”
In addition to the on-field action, the City will host a free FIFA Fan Festival™ at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway. The festival will feature live broadcasts of every match on large screens, alongside music, art installations and international cuisine, officials noted.
City staff estimate the tournament will generate thousands of jobs and contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to Toronto’s gross domestic product through tourism, hospitality and related services. “We expect a lasting legacy,” said Toronto’s Sports and Recreation Director, Maria Santos. “Enhanced playing facilities, coaching programs and community engagement initiatives will grow the game here long after the final whistle.”
The FIFA World Cup Final will be held on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Final match pairings and kick-off times for all host cities will be determined in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final Draw, scheduled for late 2025.
