5 Things to Do in Toronto This Weekend (March 28-29)
Blue Jays vs. Athletics, Opening Weekend
Saturday, 1 p.m. Rogers Centre.
The Jays opened the home schedule Friday night, and Saturday's matinee against Oakland is the first weekend game of the season. It's also a hat giveaway day (AL Champions white panel cap), so get there early if you want one.
The GOoDS 5th Annual Grand Hunt
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Citywide, with home base at The Grand Order of Divine Sweets, 1162 Queen St. W.
This is Toronto's annual citywide treasure hunt, run by the Queen West bakery The GOoDS. The setup: 10 treasure chests are hidden across mid- and downtown Toronto, each containing a scroll redeemable for a prize at the cafe. The grand prize is a $1,000 cash-filled chocolate smash egg. The total prize pool is over $5,000. Location clues drop throughout the day on the GOoDS' Instagram and Facebook. Free to participate. The first to find a chest keeps the prize.
If you don't find anything, stop by the cafe anyway. They'll be giving out hundreds of smaller prizes from an Easter basket draw.
Parkdale Day
Saturday. Free. Parkdale, Queen West.
Parkdale became part of Toronto 137 years ago this week, and the neighbourhood is marking it with a full-day celebration: five markets, four walking tours, prix fixe menus at local restaurants, plus music, art, and specials at shops along the strip. No single admission or ticket required. Just show up and wander.
Toronto Vintage Show
Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Queen Elizabeth Building, Exhibition Place, 180 Princes' Blvd. $17 admission (credit/debit only at the door).
Canada's largest vintage clothing sale, twice a year. Over 125 dealers selling curated pieces from the 1950s through to Y2K, plus handbags, jewellery, accessories, and some home decor. The Queen Elizabeth Building is a big space and you'll need it. Saturday is the longer day and gets the most serious shoppers early. If you sign up for the VIP mailing list on their site beforehand, you can knock $2 off admission.
High Park Eggventure: Who Lays What?
Sunday. Free. High Park.
A family-oriented outdoor activity run by the city. You walk through the park, discovering which animals lay eggs, learn about their adaptations, and see nesting boxes set up along the trail. It's low-key and free, which makes it a solid option if you've got kids and want to be outside without spending anything. Check the city's event page for exact start time and meeting point.
