Toronto Libraries

Toronto has the largest public library system in Canada, and by most measures, one of the busiest in the world: about 45 million visits a year across 100 branches and its online services. It traces back to 1830, and today holds more than 10.5 million items in over 40 languages, books, audiobooks, DVDs, and a growing stack of digital collections.

It's also more than a place to borrow books. Since 2022, there have been no late fines, so an overdue book won't cost you anything. Most branches offer free Wi-Fi and computer access, some run 3D printers and recording studios through TPL's Digital Innovation Hubs, and by the end of 2026, all branches will be moving to seven-day service.

With that much on offer, a library card is one of the better free things in this city.
